Totnes Beer Festival Volunteers Day Out
Saturday 26th September 2026 was the day chosen for our day out and Apex Brewing Co's new taphouse in Dorset was the destination chosen. We left Newton Abbot Station forecourt just after 10am and after about an hour and threequarters, mostly along the A303, we arrived safely at the brewery. This turned out to be a very new build, out in the country, with splendid views across the countryside.
There were three handpumps on the bar, all dispensing Apex's own beers: Piston Popper a 3.9% Pale Ale, Back Marker a 4% Bitter and Muddly Talker a 7% Stock Ale. We were there for plenty of time allowing us to enjoy the beers and our pre-ordered lunches.
It was soon time to move on, so back to the coach and a 10 minute drive into Sherborne and the Digby Tap, a multi roomed free house. Just to show how well organised this trip was, there was a whole room reserved for us!
There were four beers available here: Cerne Abbas Ale, Community Hops by the Modest Brewery, Beereux Tapestry from Hop Back and Summer Sesh Pale from Goff's. We passed an enjoyable hour or so before it was time to head for home allowing us to arrive back at Newton Abbot just after 6pm.
All that remains now is to give a big thank you to Dave, our driver, and to our two Daves, Buckler and Wheeler. for the organisation of a splendid day and, of course, not forgetting everyone at Apex Brewery.
